Roy Clark Back in Branson

One of Country music’s most enduring performers will make special appearances in Branson this weekend and next week. Roy Clark, a country music pioneer and one of Branson’s first regular entertainers, will perform shows at 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. He will then perform shows on Oct. 20-21 at 8 p.m.



Clark made his fame on “Hee Haw,” which was the longest-running syndicated show in television history. He was also one of the first major entertainers to call Branson home. Although he sold his Branson theater in 1997, he still tours more than 150 dates a year. Branson fans get many opportunities to see the legend perform, but so do fans from coast to coast. Today, renowned good guy Clark remains one of the most popular of entertainers as he looks for new opportunities on stage, on record and on TV.



Here are some of the awards Clark has earned over the years: Country Music Association Comedian Of The Year (1970); Entertainer Of The Year (1973); Instrumental Group Of The Year (with Buck Trent, 1975, 1976); Instrumentalist Of The Year (1977, 1978, 1980).Academy Of Country Music Comedy Act Of The Year (1969, 1970, 1971); Entertainer Of The Year (1972, 1973); Lead Guitar Player Of The Year (1977); Pioneer Award (1997).

Branson Welcomes Vets during Annual Veterans Homecoming

Veterans and active-duty military personnel will get the opportunity to see and meet Lt. Col Oliver North this November. North, one of this nation’s most popular veterans, will highlight Branson’s Annual Veterans Homecoming events.

Once again, veterans from all over the United States will travel to Branson to celebrate its 15th annual Veteran’s Homecoming from Nov. 5-11.

North’s appearances will include being the keynote speaker at the U.S. Marine Corps’ 233rd birthday party and an appearance from 8-10 a.m. on Nov. 11, for a breakfast event at a location yet to be determined.

This year, the headquarters and Veterans Village will be at the new Tactical Operations Center at the Branson Convention Center.

This year’s theme is “Branson Doesn’t Forget Our Military and Their Families.”

There may also be a special tribute to former Branson Mayor Lou Schaefer, who recently passed away, according to Veterans Homecoming chairman Steve Weyher.

Since 1993, thousands of veterans have traveled to Branson during this week-long tribute designed to honor service men and women. The homecoming week also means more tourism for Branson. Last year, approximately 2,500 veterans registered, but at least 50,000 veterans came to Branson for the tribute.

“The city of Branson anticipates the homecoming each year,” said Jerry Adams, Branson’s communications director. “We have plenty of lodging facilities in Branson and restaurants to accommodate the influx of veterans and we welcome the opportunity to show our veterans the honor and respect that they deserve.”

A free lunch for veterans and active-duty personnel will be served daily at the tent in the Belk parking lot at Branson Landing.

Registration is also free and will be held at the Grand Country Square and at the Convention Center from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Veterans who register will be included in daily drawings for special prizes.

“Registration is so important,” said Arlen Lipper, Veterans Task Force office manager and retired U.S. Air Force and Army veteran. “This allows us to know how many are in town and who came. So many are afraid that we will share their personal information, but we really keep that private.”

Lipper expects an increase in the number of veterans who will visit this year and has had a large number of phone calls from people who have never been to Branson and are coming for the first time.

Veterans can look forward to several days of special events such as a World War II encampment, Showboat Branson Belle Show and Dinner, an opening ceremony, a Rose Petal ceremony to honor women veterans, a Gold Star, Blue Star Mothers and Gold Star Wives Luncheon, Korean War Veterans Association reunion, and the United States 233rd Marine Corps birthday party.

All former and active duty veterans are invited, as well the general public.

Silver Dollar City's National Harvest Festival Celebrates Cowboys, Farmers and Food

Silver Dollar City's National Harvest Festival Premiers All-New Culinary & Craft School; National Harvest Festival Runs September 11 - October 25

Silver Dollar City, long known as "The Home of American Craftsmanship," celebrates its roots with the debut of the new Culinary & Craft School during the Ozarks' premier fall festival, Silver Dollar City's National Harvest Festival. Showcasing interactive culinary arts and craftsmanship, this new project opens as the theme park presents the nation's largest gathering of demonstrating craftsmen, award-winning musicians, fall food and harvest-time activities.

Also, two events within the festival highlight American institutions: the popular Salute to the Great American Cowboy featured in September, followed by the new Tribute to the American Farmer in October. The festival runs September 11 - October 25.

Designed for a special experience, Silver Dollar City's Culinary & Craft School, opening September 11, brings participants behind the scenes to learn the culinary techniques of legendary Silver Dollar City home-style cooking, as well as the techniques of creating handmade crafts for home decor. The all-new 3,000 square-foot timeberframe building features a state-of-the-art kitchen showroom and a Craftmen's Showcase room furnished with the work of the park's expert craftsmen.

Widely recognized as the foremost event for fine craftsmanship, the National Harvest Festival features handcrafted jewelry, bronze sculpture, basket weaving, pottery and stained glass, with more the 100 visiting artists demonstrating their art, including Best of Missouri Hands juried artists. Entertainment includes 400 musicians on stages throughout the park, and the original musical production Headin' West, telling the story of the American pioneer spirit in the 1870s west. The production comes to life with elaborate sets, surround-sound, and special effects from deep cave prospecting to white water rafting. A talented cast of 14 actors performs, with live music enhanced with an original orchestra score. Headin' West runs through October 19.

The tastes of the fall harvest are served up throughout the park, with smoked turkey legs, roasted corn on the cob and hearty skillet meals cooked on open grills. For a full festival feast, guests can dine at Tastes of America in the Red Gold Heritage Hall, featuring barbecued ribs, roasted prairie chicken, southwestern tacos or buffalo chili, and desserts from blackberry cobbler and peach pie to hot apple dumplings.

Cowboy Features, September 11 - 28

From the Red Gold Arena with trick riding and mild mustang presentations to western saddle and tack makers, the flavor of the West is featured in September. Watercolorist and Gunsmoke star Buck Taylor hosts stars of classic American Westerns, and nine-time Grammy winner Asleep at the Wheel performs in a special concert on September 20. Dancers can kick up their heels at the country barn dance.

Tribute to the American Farmer, October 1 - 25

A new event within the National Harvest Festival, the Tribute to the American Farmer includes border collie sheep herding demonstrations, an antique John Deere tractor display, show cattle from FFA, life-size dairy sculpture, and Southwest Dairy's mobile classroom with cow-milking demonstrations. The "Touch of Ear" Draft Mule Hitch will parade on the Square daily, showing the power and beauty of eight mammoth draft mules. Plus, "Lassie" star Jon Provost appears with the 9th generation of the famous collie, and country music artist John Conlee performs on October 11.

Chateau on the Lake Captures Two Prestigious Awards

John Anderson - Oak Ridge Boys Theatre

Branson Landing Princess Yacht Offers Unique Sightseeing

The Branson Landing Princess offers just about everything guests could want in a lake tour.

The Landing Princess launches daily at 5 p.m. for one and a half hour long dinner cruises that feature a four course meal. The meal consists of a buffet of ribs, chicken, vegetables, desserts and more, and there are two cash bars available as well, one on the upper and lower decks.

General Manager and Captain Paul Lentz said “the scenery is gorgeous” on the 10 mile round trip that takes guests from Gage’s Branson Landing Marina and Shops, located in the Wharf District, to Rockaway Beach before making the return trip.

According to the captain, every cruise gets a unique view of the Landing’s fountain show.

Lentz also said passengers are sure to see lots of wildlife through the Landing Princess’ panoramic windows, including foxes, squirrel and even an eagle’s nest.

“Every seat here is a window seat,” Lentz said. “You have a great view no matter where you are.”

The captain also explained that the Landing Princess is “fully climate controlled and has a coast guard inspected capacity of 149 people.”

While sightseeing on the cruise, passengers also get the opportunity to learn a little about how Branson got its name and other historical facts about the area.

But the 100-foot, $2.5 million motor yacht isn’t just for sightseeing. It can also be used for private parties, charters and weddings. Lentz said since the cruises began, the Landing Princess has hosted about eight weddings.

Lentz added when it comes to charters and private parties, the menu selection is “whatever they want” as the Landing Princess’ full galley allows virtually endless possibilities.

Branson's Lake Queen Offers Cruises on Lake Taneycomo

Branson is all about tourism and there is no better way to see the sights than on Branson Landing Cruises’ old fashioned paddle wheel boat, the Lake Queen.

Like its companion, the Landing Princess, the Lake Queen takes guests on a one hour, 30 minute, 10-mile round trip on Lake Taneycomo, beginning at Gage’s Branson Landing Marina and Shops and heading toward Rockaway Beach.

The Lake Queen is a 100-foot boat that holds 149 passengers with an outdoor upper deck and an enclosed, climate-controlled lower deck. The panoramic windows on the lower deck ensure guests will be able to see all of the beauty and wildlife along the lakeshore.

Lentz explained that on the cruise, visitors can see myriad types of local wildlife along the shores of Lake Taneycomo, including a nest of bald eagles.

Unlike the Landing Princess, the Lake Queen does not offer a dinner cruise, but on weekends, passengers can partake in a pizza cruise.

Lake Queen pizza cruises feature hand-tossed gourmet pizza with cheese, pepperoni or sausage topping and the food is included in the price of the ticket. For regular cruises, guests may purchase a deli lunch before send-off to eat aboard the boat. However, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase aboard the Lake Queen.

While on the cruise, passengers can learn about Branson history, including how the town got its name and a little about the Baldknobbers, the orignal Branson gang, not the show. Children can even help Lentz captain the Lake Queen.

Johnny Mathis to perform in Branson

Johnny Mathis is scheduled to perform at the Mansion in Branson, Missouri.

On that date, the Japanese formally surrendered aboard the Battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Harbor. The fall tournament and concert will be held at John Daly’s Murder Rock Golf and Country Club, located within the acclaimed Branson Creek Residential Community. This celebrity filled event moves from Tunica to its new home and promises to become one of the area’s most popular and talked about events. Andy Williams Returns to Moon River Theater for Fall Season

For the seventeenth consecutive year, Andy Williams returns to perform at his Moon River Theater in Branson. But, this time, reminiscient of his legendary TV shows, Williams will present a fun-filled extravaganza featuring not only himslef but a cornucopia of some of the best variety acts in the business for an evening of wholesome family entertainment. The Andy Williams All-Star Variety Show will run from September 5-October 25 with performances Monday-Saturday at 7 p.m.

Joining Williams for the 2008 season will be the husband and wife dance team of Pasha and Aliona, who bring elegance, humor and unique acrobatics to their choreography. Their act is full of surprises and colorful costumes. Also on the bill is world class violinist, fiddler Dean Church, who has been a Branson favorite for many years, delighting audiences of all ages with his outstanding musical ability. Additionally, combining physical comedy, music and eccentric dance, Joe Trammel will bring his unique brand of comedy to the Moon River Theater stage. People magazine called Bob Anderson "the best singing impressionist in show business" and Anderson will bring his versions of some of the entertainment world's most famous voices to the festivities. The dynamic tap dancing duo of Faruma and Floyd Williams will be featured as well.

And , of course, there's the star of the show.

Former President Ronald Reagan once referred Andy Williams' voice as " a national treasure."

William's solo career began when he went to New York to become a regualr performer on Steve Allen's "Tonight Show." In 1956 he had three hits, including his first top ten record, "Canadian Sunset." This was followed by a string of hits, including his first No. 1, "Butterfly," "Are You Sincere," "Lonely Street," "Can't Get Used to Loving You," "Days of Wine and Roses," "Charade," "Dear Heart," "Love Story" and "The Hawiian Wedding Song," for which he received his first of his five Grammy award nominations. During this period he also appeared on the Academy Awards and performed what has become his theme song ever since, "Moon River."

During his career Williams has amassed almost 20 gold albums and three that reached platinum status. In the fall of 1963, Williams premiered his NBC variety show, "The Andy Williams Show," which would last nine years, win three Emmy Awards and lead to the first of his classic Christmas specials. He has since gone on to become a true international superstar, with tremendous worldwide record sales and record breaking tours on four continents.
