Andy Williams, Legendary "Moon River" Crooner, Dead at 84

Andy Williams, the legendary entertainer who has called Branson home for the past 20 years, has passed away.  He was 84. 

2012 had marked his 75th year in the entertainment industry.   

Williams died Tuesday night at his home in Branson following a yearlong battle with bladder cancer, his Los Angeles-based publicist, Paul Shefrin, said Wednesday. Williams, who was one of the most popular vocalists of the 1960s as well as an avid golfer, owns the Moon River Theatre in Branson, Missouri, where he performed at up until last year. 

Known for his smooth and mellow voice, Williams was once termed by President Ronald Reagan “a national treasure.”  His vocals and charming stage presence led him to receive 18 gold and three platinum albums over his long career.  He was also nominated for five Grammys.  His famous songs include "Canadian Sunset," "Butterfly,” "Lonely Street," "The Hawaiian Wedding Song," "Days of Wine and Roses," "Dear Heart" and the "Sweetheart Tree.”  Of course, Williams’ most noted song is “Moon River,” which became his signature. 

Williams is survived by his wife, Debbie, and his three children, Robert, Noelle and Christian.

Andy Williams was more than a legendary vocalist, he was the heart and soul of Branson entertainment for over twenty years.  He will be missed by many.  Our thoughts and condolences are with his friends and family.
